Indonesia: Building a Cohesive Society

UJN conducted a field trip to Sampang in 2013 after reports of sectarian violence arose. Subsequently, it convened meetings in Jakarta and Penang to bring about social cohesion and anti-sectarian narratives. The meetings included capacity building workshops from prominent Sunni and Shia leaders leading non-sectarian Islamic movements from different continents, as well as educational workshops on the role of colonialism both historically and contemporaneously, in fomenting internecine hatred and bloodshed.
